As President and CEO of AnitaB.org, Brenda Darden Wilkerson hopes to one day make her role obsolete. AnitaB.org is a global nonprofit dedicated to gender equity and pay parity in tech which envisions a global tech ecosystem where tech solutions are deeply rooted in humanity and truly serve the whole of the population.

ABOUT HER WORK

As president and CEO of AnitaB.org, a nonprofit seeking to diversify tech by bringing in more women and nonbinary talent, Brenda Darden Wilkerson hopes to one day make her job obsolete. Since taking the helm of the organization, she's boosted its membership from 1,600 to more than 75,000 technologists worldwide. She assumed the role in 2017 at 57 after spending eight years with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), most recently serving as its director of computer science and IT education.
At CPS, she spearheaded the "Computer Science for All" initiative, which built computer science classes into the curriculum for every student in the district—the fourth-largest in the country. Her work on the program inspired the Obama administration's national "Computer Science For All" initiative announced in 2016.
